Artist Statement

My work explores the intersection of landscapes, meditation and the human experience. I am inspired by the ways humans experience the environment and the psychological benefits of nature. I enjoy playing with the psychological implications of color and use it to affect the overall mood of each painting. I find the creative process meditative and use it to try and recenter myself while making sense of complex situations and emotions I experience in life. Drawing on-site, plein-air painting, and photography are techniques that each lend themselves to my practice. These processes are used as preliminary captures of details and later as reference for larger paintings. I take great care to continue learning from these environments. Once back in the studio I fixate on trying to reproduce the energy of those moments with my paintbrush or pencil. Allowing myself to appreciate what exists all around me and savor the details. Gathering inspiration directly from the outdoors is one of the creative experiences that I enjoy most.
